I'm planning a bushcraft expedition and need advice

In a few weeks I'll be back in my hometown with some old friends of mine and we're thinking about heading up some logging roads into the woods, building a camp/shelter, and camping for the night. I've spent plenty of time outside starting bonfires, tending my parent's farm, and building forts as a kid but this will be my first time camping out in the wilderness (campgrounds not included). If any of you have good experience/advice/links to videos or other info on good shelters, effective firepit designs, or anything regarding this expedition, please share :) Here are the detailsLocation: somewhat northern. Temperature will most likely dip into the 20's during nighttime, potentially even colder. We will be in the hills or mountains (evergreen forest).Supplies: Husqvarna Carpenters axe, good sleeping bag, ferrocerium rod, Opinel No. 8, warm clothes and work boots, and 2 AR-15s (we plan to do some target shooting, and also for defense if by some stroke of misfortune we are confronted by dangerous animals or people)Food: I'm not sure. We will be bringing water, tea, good cigars, and potentially sausages, potatoes, oatmeal, etc. Advice in this area would be appreciated. If any of you care to share tips or advice, thank you!Of course, we will be safe and respectful in terms of shooting and leaving a mark on the land- all trash will be removed, any brass will be picked up and the fire will be safely maintained. http://ift.tt/2gXmfEA
