Spin tops from foreverspin.com

Hi Folks,I've been carrying different foreverspin.com tops, in addition to everything else I carry (Tom Kuhn wooden Yo-yo, tensioner to strengthen the guitar hand, Wilson Combat CQB .45, Hermes watch, the new wireless Bose that come with the cool little case, etc.), and I've noticed that those tops (particularly the copper one) really can't take a bump. Once it's got an inclusion in the edges, it just stops spinning right. Does anyone have advice regarding tops that aren't going to be susceptible to dying out so easily. I need something that's going to exhibit a little grace under pressure. Thanks! http://ift.tt/2gt785q

Book recommendation- "What the Robin Knows" by Jon Young

Hey folks, I wanted to give you a heads up on this book as I thought you'd all appreciate it. I first heard about it from Mary Kate of Alone season 2. She mentioned it in an interview so I thought I'd pick it up.I'm currently about halfway through the book and it's pretty darn good. It discusses what the author calls "bird language" in great detail- how to interpret the various songs of different birds, and what they can tell you about your environment- approaching predators and other animals, etc. The author goes so far as to claim he can determine exactly what kind of animal is approaching or is in the area depending on the song and behavior of specific birds. So far what I've picked up is that there are five basic types of vocalizations birds make- territorial singing, conflict type chirps, contact chirps, adolescent begging, and alarms. The first four are "business as usual" for birds and the last one seems to tell you the most about your environment. The key is to know how to distinguish alarm behavior and vocalization from the others as the difference can be subtle. From the contents it looks like the author goes into far greater detail about what can be learned.Reading through this book also gives you kind of a better appreciation for the life of the woods in general, it is opening my eyes to systems and information I wasn't keenly aware of.Anyway give it a look, here is the Amazon link and I highly recommend picking up the Kindle edition as it has audio recordings throughout that really help understand what the author is talking about. If you have any similar such books and resources I'd love to hear about it. http://ift.tt/2g22mvg

Primitive Hazel Nut Bread

So after watching a few video on youtube i decided to go and have a go at making some bread with just edibles you would find in the wild. The 2 edibles i used were Potatoes and Hazel Nuts which should be common in most parts of the world. The first thing i did was removed the actual hazel nut from the shell it took about 1 hour to do 100 then i placed in a bowl and mashed the nut with a rock until it started too look like a powder. Then i peeled and grated 4 Potatoes and let them sit in water for 30 minutes to harvest the starch to use as a binder for the flour substitute as it is packed with energy. I then mixed the 2 together into a flat biscuit type shape and cooked over a fire until i thought it was ready then garnished with mint and then ate. the whole process took about 2 hours. The taste was fairly bland so next time i will add raspberries for flavor, other than that it worked fine and would highly suggest making if you want to learn about self sustainability. photos will be below (Sorry i didn't take many pictures)http://ift.tt/2fM1zkr http://ift.tt/2gs1Sin

.22 Pellet Gun - is it a valid tool?

I was just having a discussion with someone and i figured I could post the question here. For survival purposes.. and we're talking hunting and killing small game. Basically living off the land. The reason we asked this because 1000 .22 pellet rounds fits in your pocket. A 1000 .22 rounds needs more consideration. The pellet gun we are talking about is a high powered hunting break barrel air gun. http://ift.tt/2fULZR0
