Processing Pine Straw into Tinder

Hello,I've been practicing primitive fire lately. Some successes, and some failures. I've been using pine straw as tinder, and it works great. The trick is to get pine straw that has been run over several times by passing vehicles. It makes it really soft and fluffy, which is perfect tinder. I've been trying to figure out how to duplicate this in the wild, but so far I haven't come up with anything. The next thing I'm going to try is to take a rolling pin to some fresh pine straw, and see if I can duplicate the results that way.
