Coyote / wolf pack worries

How do you deal with them? How much of a risk am I taking being alone out in the forest past dark?It gets dark super early now. The temperature is 4c/40f and I'm having a great time out bush crafting in the forest till I hear what sounds like a dozen wild canines howling a few minutes away. They are closer the next time I hear the pack howl a few minutes later. I pack up and start hiking back to the car. It really unnerved me this time. I guess because this area was more wild than I've been before. The thought of having to take on a dozen wild canines with a stick or my bush knife didn't seem like fun.Ive woken up to them howling in the middle of the night when sleeping at a typical campground in the winter. But seems they didn't tend to come onto the campground when I was there.Ive some Sabre dog spray but honestly I've never tried it, so who knows how well I can rely on it.It got me thinking tonight I need to learn more about what I might be having to deal with when I'm out there. Especially if I'm ever going to stealth camp some of the back country.Could a using a loud whistle scare them from coming closer? Are they more likely to approach me if I don't have a fire going where I'm camped for the night? Are they attracted more by the smell of me cooking some food? Thanks in advance for the advice guys! http://ift.tt/2gvl5A9
